From its earliest days as a movement of prairie farmers and working class city dwellers – Alberta’s NDP has strived to represent ordinary Alberta families and make their day-to-day lives better.
While the Liberals and Conservatives accept hundreds of thousands of dollars per year in political donations from big oil and other large corporations, Alberta’s NDP refuses donations from big business. Party leaders from Grant Notley to Brian Mason have recognized that issues like fair rents, royalty rates, utility costs, and protection of our environment cannot be properly addressed by parties that owe favours to big corporations.
That commitment to regular families is why Alberta’s NDP voted against corporate tax cuts, while the Liberals and Conservatives supported them. It also explains why Liberals and Conservatives support bargain basement royalty rates, while Brian Mason keeps working to get a better deal for Albertans.
