Grant Notley was elected provincial leader in 1968. In 1971 he won the constituency of Spirit River-Fairview, a seat he held until his tragic death in a place crash in October of 1984. From 1971 - 1982, Notley was the only NDP MLA in the Alberta Legislature and was labeled the “one-man” New Democrat opposition in the Alberta legislature.
The Grant Notley Fund was established in memory of his dedication, hard work and commitment to democracy in Alberta. The Fund is designed to allow members to target their donation to finance the provincial election campaign. Donors to the fund donate a minimum of $1000 which is earmarked exclusively for the election. It is a fitting memory to the man who worked so hard to build our party.
