Brian Malkinson family has deep roots in Calgary. He is a third generation Calgarian, and spends time with his grandparents, who have been residents in Northwest Calgary for more than 50 years.
Malkinson has a Science degree from Simon Fraser University in BC. While at SFU, he served as the president of his faculty student association. Facing tough economic times in 2008, he moved to Alberta and gained employment as a diesel engine technician. But the MLA wasn’t interested in just staying afloat, so he decided to step into the political arena and pursue his vision for progressive prosperity.
In 2012 he ran for Alberta’s NDP in Calgary-North West, maintaining NDP support in that riding and again in 2014 in Calgary-West.
Malkinson now sits on the Public Accounts Committee, looking over the financial situation across the whole of the Alberta Government, and ensuring that money spent is spent in the proper ways.
In his spare time Malkinson can be found tinkering away on his current project car, or spending time with friends playing recreational sports.
