David Eggen was elected as the MLA for Edmonton-Calder on April 23, 2012. He also represented the constituency from 2004 to 2008.
David was educated at the University of Alberta, where he received a Bachelor of Education in 1984. From 1990 to 2004, David taught at a number of Edmonton public schools.
He became active in provincial politics when he began to recognize how seriously the decisions made in the legislature affected his young family and his neighbours’ families. David then began to look for a party that shared his vision for a more just, fair, and sustainable society. Eventually, David decided that the best way for him to contribute towards that goal was to run as the MLA for Edmonton-Calder.
As an MLA, David finds energy and satisfaction from meeting with Albertans from all parts of the province and working towards making Alberta a fairer, more inclusive province.
David served as the Executive Director of Friends of Medicare from 2008 to 2012. He continues to serve as a trustee with the Forum for Young Albertans and a chair leader of the Canadian Paraplegic Association
The Eggen family has lived and worked in northwest Edmonton for more than 20 years.
