Documents show Consort Hospital repairs overdue under Prentice PCs

CONSORT - In light of Jim Prentice’s claim last week that the Consort Hospital’s poor condition makes his “blood boil,” Drumheller-Stettler NDP candidate Emily Shannon released documents showing that under Prentice’s watch over a million dollars of overdue repairs have gone unfixed.

“Clearly, Mr. Prentice had an opportunity to do something about the situation at the Consort Hospital and chose to do nothing,” said Shannon.

The documents, obtained under the FOIP Act, show that by the time Mr. Prentice assumed office, there were already $1.2 million in overdue repairs at the Consort Hospital.  But instead of moving to improve the situation, he let additional maintenance go undone. In 2014, the Consort Hospital failed to replace its humidification boiler and fell further into disrepair. The documents further show that this year another $300,000 of needed repairs will be ignored.

“Mr. Prentice wants us to believe he is different, but he is perpetuating the shameful PC record of hospital neglect,” added Shannon.

In total, there are almost $1.6 million in outstanding repairs at the Consort Hospital.
