New Democrates name Bilous candidate in Beverly-Clareview

EDMONTON - Inner city teacher Deron Bilous has been named the NDP Candidate for Edmonton Beverly Clareview in the next provincial election.

Bilous will attempt to re-capture the riding that NDP MLA Ray Martin lost by just 337 votes in 2008.  Bilous, who was acclaimed at a nomination meeting attended by over 70 people last night, says he's already increasted the NDP membership in the riding by over 200%.

In 2008, Bilous was the NDP candidate in Edmonton Centre, raising the share of the NDP vote in that riding by nine percent.

In his acceptance speech, Bilous spoke of the shared values the NDP have with Alberta voters.

"On the doorstep, I hear the same hopes from every Albertan - stable job, a strong economy, healthcare system you can count on, and a healthy environment," said Bilous. "I also hear the concerns people have - from the rising cost of bills, to crime, job security, the cost of child care to many other."
