Calgary - NDP candidate for Calgary-Foothills Bob Hawkesworth received has received endorsements from former colleagues at the municipal and provincial level who are encouraging voters to mark their ballots for him on September 3rd.
The list of prominent Calgary leaders represent views from across the political spectrum showing Hawkesworth’s ability to build friendships and coalitions in spite of political ideology to achieve the best results for Calgarians.
Endorsers include former Calgary Mayor and former Leader of the Social Credit Party Rod Skyes and former Alderman and MLA for Calgary-Millican Gordon Shrake. Also included are sitting Calgary Councillors Diane Colley-Urquhart and Druh Farrell.
“It’s been humbling to hear from people I’ve worked with during my three decades of public service who believe in me and my desire to represent the people of this riding and this city. Some of that support is coming from former colleagues who have never backed an NDP candidate. I am overwhelmed that they are willing to step forward and stand with me right now,” said Hawkesworth at today’s announcement.

Councillor Druh Farrell, Ward 7, 2001-present
“As an alderman, Bob had an uncanny ability to quietly observe Council’s debate (sometimes pretty raucous), and after we had all settled down, add his
calm wisdom and tremendous depth of understanding. We relied on Bob to provide ideas that none of us had considered, often completely changing our perspective. Bob was masterful at finding common ground – the great conciliator – so that at the end of the day, we all felt our needs were met. Alberta needs more leaders like Bob Hawkesworth.”
Rod Sykes, Former Mayor, City of Calgary (1969-1977), Leader of Alberta Social Credit Party
“I am not a member of the NDP. I’m not a member of any party. But I have worked with Bob over many years and know that he is honest, responsible, hard working and loyal to his constituents. I trust Bob to work for his constituents. I think he would be a valuable advisor to the provincial government. He has the experience they need.
Councillor Diane Colley-Urquhart, Ward 3, 2000-present
“I had my 15th year on council this year and for ten of those years I worked closely with Bob. I learned a lot from him. He was a mentor of mine. We really need someone like Bob to represent Calgary and to be at the table in the government caucus.”
Gordon Shrake, former alderman (1971-1982), former PC MLA Calgary-Millican (1982-1993)
“He’s one of the most caring men I’ve ever met. He has plenty of experience and would make a very good MLA in the Notley government. He’s good-hearted, trustworthy and honest and he cares for the people he represents.”
