Role of Provincial Council

Provincial Council is the governing body of the Party between Provincial Conventions. 

Representatives for Provincial Council

Each delegating body should choose a person(s) to represent their group at Provincial Council meetings.  This person should be prepared to make a Provincial Council report for their delegating body and be able to report to Provincial Council on their activities.  

Registering for Provincial Council

Please complete the attached PDF Registration Form and bring it and this notice to Council. Each organization is encouraged to send delegates as it is important that your EDA, Affiliate Organization or Caucus has a link to the Provincial Council.   

Delegate Entitlement  

  1. 3 members from each Provincial Electoral District Association

Chosen by EDA Executive

  1. 1 member from each Federal Electoral District Association

Chosen by EDA Executive

  1. 2 representatives of the Provincial Caucus (MLAs)

Chosen by Provincial Caucus

  1. 1 MP from Alberta
  2. All Provincial Executive Members
  3. Federal Council Members in Alberta
  4. 2 members from the Alberta Federation of Labour

Chosen by the AFL

  1. 1 member from each affiliated organization 

Chosen by AUPE, CUPE, Ironworkers, UFCW, USW

  1. 5 members of the NDYA (New Democratic Youth of Alberta)

Chosen by the NDYA Executive

  1. 5 members from each of the Women’s, LGBT, Environment, Indigenous People’s and Rural Caucuses (not including the Co-chair representing Provincial Executive)

Chosen by each Caucus’ Executive

Members who do not qualify as delegates as per the above may attend Council as observers.   Each credential must be signed by the appropriate officer before the delegate is registered at Provincial Council.
