CALGARY— As a referendum question on separation is now confirmed for this October, it’s time to stand together, get organized, and fight For Alberta, For Canada.

“Albertans are worried about the future of our great province and country, and angry that we have to go through this referendum process in the first place,” said Naheed Nenshi, Leader of Alberta’s New Democrats. “We cannot be fooled by Danielle Smith’s sweet words following her deliberate decisions to put our country at risk just so she can try and save her job.”

The Premier's decision to move forward with a separation referendum comes after months of political malpractice by the UCP government — including rewriting legislation in favour of separatists, waving off the largest data breach in Alberta history and all of its risks, and ignoring a court ruling that struck down a separatist petition over failure to consult First Nations.

“All of us have a role to play, and now is the time to stand together For Alberta, For Canada,” said Nenshi. “That’s why I’m thrilled that proud Canadians like Olympic gold medalist Catriona Le May Doan are speaking out, lending their voice in the fight to save Canada. Thank you Catriona for joining us at our rally today in Calgary and for sharing why you will be standing up to save Canada.”
