David Shepherd

About David

For over a decade, David Shepherd has been an ever-present and dynamic advocate for those living in the heart of Edmonton –a familiar sight on the streets of the communities he represents.

As an MLA, he’s been a strong champion for Edmonton’s downtown, the arts, the technology and innovation sector, access to housing, supports for mental health and building safer communities. From 2019-24, he served as the Critic for Health, fiercely defending public health, healthcare workers and our public healthcare system. He currently serves as Shadow Minister for Public Safety and Emergency Services.

David is well-known across African, Caribbean, and Black communities for his constant presence at community events, role in founding Alberta’s official recognition of Black History Month and work to address systemic racism with the Anti-Racism Act.

David is a life-long resident of Edmonton who previously worked as a musician, studio engineer and in communications. Outside politics, David enjoys cycling, good coffee, live music, hiking and jigsaw puzzles.
