CALGARY — The Alberta NDP has officially nominated Kyle Campbell as its candidate in Calgary‑Shaw.
Campbell is a fourth-generation Albertan who lives in Calgary-Shaw with his wife and two young sons and works in the financial sector. He decided to run after listening to his neighbours' concerns about separation and affordability. He was also spurred by his own experience battling stage four cancer, which reinforced the importance of improving access to quality public health care and reducing wait times for everyone.
“Three years ago, I was told I had stage four cancer, and in that moment I saw firsthand what’s at stake when our system isn’t working the way it should,” said Campbell.
“What matters in a moment like that is being able to count on getting timely health care and having a government that cares about affordability for all families. I’m running because I know Albertans deserve so much better than what the UCP government is providing and the Alberta NDP has a plan to make life better for the people of Calgary-Shaw.”
Campbell said his deep connection to Calgary‑Shaw and the people that live there inspired him to step forward.
“I’m not a career politician. I’m a dad, a coach, and a neighbour,” said Campbell. “I’m stepping up because people here deserve someone who understands their lives and will fight to improve affordability, fix health care, and strengthen our schools.”
“Kyle Campbell is exactly the kind of person Albertans need to do this work,” said Naheed Nenshi, Leader of the Alberta NDP. “He knows what families are going through because he’s living it. He is already a leader in his community, volunteering his time, coaching local kids, and bringing neighbours together. Now he’s ready to take that same commitment to the legislature to fight for Calgary‑Shaw. It’s time for the voters of South Calgary to send Danielle Smith a message: stop taking Calgary for granted, stop gaslighting us, and stop with this separatist nonsense. The best way to send that message is to send Kyle Campbell to the legislature.”
