Bob Wanner was first elected on May 5th, 2015 as the MLA for Medicine Hat. He was elected Speaker of the Legislative Assembly on June 11th, 2015. As the Speaker, Bob is also Chair of the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services and President of the Alberta branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Before being elected, Bob spent 15 years with Canadians Reaching Out to the World's Children Foundation (CARO), as both a founding member and President, in Medicine Hat. Bob also had a career of over 35 years with the City of Medicine Hat, where he held various senior management and executive level positions.
Bob is a registered social worker (RSW), qualified mediator (QMed) and registered family mediator (RFM). In 2005 he began his own private mediation, conflict resolution, and small property development business.
Bob has over 40 years of community service experience. He has been a Senator for the University of Calgary, a volunteer with the Salvation Army, the United Way, and a Chair of the Family Care Clinic (FCC) steering committee.
Bob holds a Master of Arts in social welfare policy from McMaster University, an MBA from the University of Calgary, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan.
Bob has lived in Medicine Hat since 1972. He and his wife have 4 children and 11 grandchildren.
