Naheed Nenshi and Gurtej Singh Brar are headed to the Legislature following their victories in the Edmonton-Strathcona and Edmonton-Ellerslie by-elections.
“Thank you, Edmonton-Strathcona,” said Nenshi after his landslide victory. “I’m deeply honoured and grateful for the trust this community has placed in me. It means the world to have the opportunity to serve Edmonton-Strathcona and all Albertans as a Member of the Legislative Assembly.”
He added, “I want to congratulate the other Alberta New Democrat candidates, Bev Toews and Gurtej Singh Brar, for their outstanding support-growing campaigns. I welcome Gurtej Singh Brar as our newest member of caucus and know he will do great things for his community.”
Brar also shared his thanks: “Thank you to the people of Edmonton-Ellerslie for putting your trust in me. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who opened their doors, shared their stories, and supported our campaign.”
“Tonight, we’ve sent a clear message to Danielle Smith and the UCP: our community is demanding better,” he said. “I will be a strong voice in the Legislature for Southeast Edmonton... fighting for lower costs for families, safer communities, better schools, and the long-overdue South Edmonton Hospital.”
Nenshi concluded, “Albertans deserve better. And today, they chose better.”
