Access to health care has been difficult for many Albertans over the last four years.

We need to ensure we're attracting health care workers to the province as our system has been struggling with staffing shortages under the UCP.

Rachel Notley will launch the largest health care recruitment plan the province has ever seen.

Our plan will attact more frontline health care workers, train them faster, and deliver better health care for Albertans.

Over the past four years, the UCP chased away doctors, nurses and allied health professions while creating a crisis in health care. More Alberta hospitals are closed due to staffing shortages, kids are waiting 15 hours in emergency rooms, and Albertans are driving 300 kilometres to get care.

Enough is enough.

It’s time for better health care for all Albertans.

Our plan includes will recruit and retain more healthcare workers so families get care sooner.

We will:

• Offer signing bonuses of up to $10,000 to attract doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals
• Create up to 10,000 new post-secondary spaces specific to healthcare and related fields over the next four years
• Ensure compensation and working models are competitive with those in other provinces.
• Offer incentives to work in rural and remote communities

We know there are internationally trained health care workers who want to work in Alberta but face significant barriers to employment. Our plan will get them to work sooner.

To help this, we will:

• Recruit more internationally trained health providers and international medical graduates (IMGs)
• Create more pathways to practice for internationally trained health providers and IMGs
• Double the number of residency spaces for which IMGs are eligible
• Streamline the international credentialing process to ensure transparency and fairness
• Eliminatie bi-annual language exams when IMGs have been working in their field in English

The Alberta NDP will establish a Healthcare Recruitment and Retention Advisory Council to work with healthcare leaders and training institutions to help recruit and retain more healthcare staff.

Our plan will reduce wait times, reduce stress on healthcare workers and help families find care sooner, closer to home.
